Single-Origin Honduran Dark Roast: What Makes It Special
Not all dark roasts are created equal. While many dark roasts lean heavily on roast character — smoke, bitterness, char — a well-sourced single-origin dark roast tells a completely different story. Our Honduran Dark Roast is a perfect example: bold and rich, yet layered with notes of chocolate, brown spice, and marzipan that set it apart from the crowd.
Why Honduras?
Honduras has quietly become one of the most exciting coffee-producing countries in the world. Situated in Central America, it benefits from high-altitude growing regions, rich volcanic soils, and a climate that produces beans with excellent density and natural sweetness. The country's coffee industry has invested heavily in quality over the past two decades, and the results speak for themselves in the cup.
Honduran coffees are known for their approachable, crowd-pleasing character — naturally sweet, well-balanced, and with a satisfying body that makes them particularly well-suited to darker roast profiles.
The Flavour Profile
Our Honduran Dark Roast is hand roasted to order, which means every bag arrives at its peak. Here's what to expect in the cup:
- Chocolate: A deep, rich cocoa note runs through the whole cup — think dark chocolate rather than milk chocolate. It's the backbone of the flavour profile and what makes this coffee so satisfying.
- Brown Spice: Subtle warmth from notes like cinnamon and nutmeg add complexity and depth without overpowering. It's the kind of nuance you notice more with each sip.
- Marzipan: A gentle almond sweetness rounds out the finish, giving the coffee a smooth, almost dessert-like quality that lingers pleasantly.
The result is a dark roast that's bold without being harsh, and complex without being difficult — exactly what a great single-origin dark roast should be.
Hand Roasted to Order
Every bag of our Honduran Dark Roast is roasted to order, not sitting in a warehouse. This matters more than most people realise. Coffee is at its best in the 2–6 weeks after roasting — the CO₂ has had time to off-gas, the flavours have settled, and the bean is at peak expression. Roasting to order means you get that window every single time.
How to Brew It
This coffee is versatile enough to shine across multiple brew methods:
- French press: The immersion method brings out the full body and chocolate depth. A 4-minute steep at 94°C is a great starting point.
- Espresso / Moka pot: The low acidity and rich flavour profile make it an excellent espresso base. It cuts through milk beautifully in a latte or flat white.
- Cold brew: Dark roast cold brew is a revelation — the chocolate and marzipan notes become even more pronounced when brewed cold over 18–24 hours.
- Cafetière: Simple and satisfying. Let it steep for 4 minutes and press slowly for a rich, full-bodied cup.
